“#1,  Put God first.  Put God first in everything you do.”  Denzel Washington

Jesus said, 25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you shall eat or what you shall drink, nor about your body, what you shall put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27 And which of you by being anxious can add one cubit to his span of life?_ 34 “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Let the day’s own trouble be sufficient for the day. -Matthew 6:25-27, 34

“You cannot win the war against the world if you can’t win the war against your own mind.”  Will Smith

“When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves.”  Viktor E. Frankl

“If you cannot find peace within yourself, you will never find it anywhere else.” -Marvin Gaye

“If we all did the things we are capable of doing we would literally astound ourselves.” -Thomas Edison

“Don’t make big decisions too soon, just because you are chronologically old enough does not mean you are mentally old enough to make a good decision.  The consequences of a bad decision or choice that you could have avoided can affect the next 50 years of your life.”  -T.D. Jakes

“There is no better than adversity. Every defeat, every heartbreak, every loss, contains its own seed, its own lesson on how to improve your performance next time.” — Malcolm X

“Be Water, My Friend. Empty your mind. Be formless, shapeless, like water. You put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle. You put it into a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.” – Bruce Lee

“All the ill that is in us comes from fear, and all the good from love.” – Eleanor Farjeon

“The only difference between success and failure is the ability to take action.”  –Alexander Graham Bell

Autobiography in 5 Short Chapters

Some say Portia Nelson was at a self help seminar.  The exercise was to write your life story on a 3X5 index card. This insightful poem is about finally coming to the understanding that you need to change the way you behave and think.  It is profound and brilliantly truthful.

CHAPTER ONE

I walk down the street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I fall in.
I am lost…I am helpless.
It isn’t my fault.
It takes forever to find a way out.

CHAPTER TWO

I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I pretend I don’t see it.
I fall in again.
I can’t believe I am in the same place
but, it isn’t my fault.
It still takes a long time to get out.

CHAPTER THREE

I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I see it is there.
I still fall in… it’s a habit.
My eyes are open.
I know where I am.
It is my fault.
I get out immediately.

CHAPTER FOUR

I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I walk around it.

CHAPTER FIVE

I walk down another street.

Mother Teresa
Mother Teresa - "Do It Anyway"

People are often unreasonable, irrational, and self-centered.  Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives.  Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some unfaithful friends and some genuine enemies.  Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and sincere people may deceive you.   Be honest and sincere anyway.

What you spend years creating, others could destroy overnight.  Create anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, some may be jealous.  Be happy anyway.

The good you do today, will often be forgotten.  Do good anyway.

Give the best you have, and it will never be enough. Give your best anyway.

In the final analysis, it is between you and God. It was never between you and them anyway.

Quotes

“When given the choice to be right or be kind.  Always choose kind.”

“When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.”

“Resentment is like venom that continues to pour through your system, doing its poisonous damage long after being bitten by the snake. It’s not the bite that kills you; it’s the venom. Send love in some form to those you feel have wronged you and notice how much better you feel.”

“Thoughts or actions that aren’t tuned to love will prevent inspiration from getting through to us—we need to remember that we come from a Source of pure love, so a simple life means incorporating that love as one of the three mainstays of our material existence. Just as love is the priority in the final moments of life, so it must be as we simplify life now. We can go
toward a clearer life by examining and purifying our relationships with those we love, with ourselves, and with God. What we’re looking for are connections that keep us in an energy of love, which is the highest and fastest energy in the Universe.  If we organize our life around love—for God, for ourselves, for family and friends, for all humankind, and for the environment—we’ll remove a lot of the chaos and disorder that defines our life. This is a way to simplify our life, but more than that, it’s a way to attract inspiration.”
